SMCK MAGAZINE #12
THE FASHIONABLE CATALOGUE

Be part of SMCK Magazine’s trendsetting catalogue to be dispensed at Grassimesse Leipzig

APPLY BY 13 AUGUST 2025!

SMCK Magazine is about to design a catalogue for Grassimesse 2025 - Europe’s oldest fair of applied arts - taking place at Grassi Museum Leipzig/Germany, 24–26 October 2025. The print, digital and online catalogue will be published in SMCK Magazine issue #12, Fashionable, in October 2025. The digital catalogue will be downloadable for free, and will be linked to the Grassimesse website. SMCK Magazine editors will participate in Grassimesse 2025, and promote Fashionable in situ.

The Fashionable Open Call addresses artists, designers and crafters working with jewelry, textile, glass, ceramics, paper, lace, toys, furniture, wood, metal, fashion, leather, accessories.

Each selected artist, designer and crafter will be presented on a full page of the print, digital and online catalogue with work and statement. The presentation includes networking and social media promotion.

Tectonic shifts in world politics and finances give birth to new values, ideas, aesthetics, life projects that are reflected in the applied arts and fashion sectors. The catalogue features the new realities – and the trends – that are shaping aesthetical, conceptual, material-and-techniques related considerations that go beyond the obvious eco-orientation, 3D logistics or AI hype.

SMCK Magazine's Fashionable catalogue identifies the new trends, and puts them into context in four CHAPTERS

RE-USE

CHAPTER I refers to recycling-upcycling, material scouting, re-branding concepts and inspiration-sources that have been prominent in the past.

BUOYANT

CHAPTER II refers to designs that make people smile or laugh, while promoting a new social etiquette, an idiosyncratic dress code, and alternative status symbols.

TRADITIONAL

CHAPTER III refers to the makers’ ultimate shield to mass production, namely the sophisticated, handcrafted designs that feature history, symbols in the art piece or product.

COMBAT

CHAPTER IV refers to designs, concepts and presentations inspired by conflict, activism, militarism and anti-militarism. In the broader sense, Combat includes designs and works that reflect the spirit of freedom and yearning for an intense and meaningful life.
