For more than 100 years, "Made in Germany" has stood for applied arts, crafts, and design of the highest quality: for elegant forms, extreme usability, top quality materials and narrative perfection.
„Made in Germany“ stands for approach, method, inspiration and philosophy of life.
In the 2020s, "Made in Germany" does not only refer to German designers or artists based in Germany.
International artists who see in applied arts, crafts, and design a tool and a way to shape a more empathetic future and a more inclusive and meaningful life honor and participate in the worldview of „Made in Germany“.
SMCK Magazine’s issue No. 11 is dedicated to „Made in Germany“, to its amazing history connected to 20th century politics, social trends, innovation, and to its future.
SMCK Magazine places in the context of the history of applied arts, crafts and design WHAT, WHO and WHY is something or somebody Made in Germany. Each entry in the glossary sums up the very essence of an initiative, school, brand or artist.
Exclusive content offering the insight of legendary German brands, world top class cultural institutions and sector’s pioneers guides readers to the future of applied arts, crafts, and design.
The artists’ interviews and statements, also catalogued in the glossary, illuminate the artist’s spirit, and initiate readers into the artists’ vision.
Selected artists’ works and interviews will feature next to applied arts, crafts and design giants, such as Braun, Lufthansa, BMW, major cultural institutions such as Vitra Museum, Museum of Applied Arts Hamburg, Bauhaus Foundation, Ulm Archive, Arnoldsche Publishers, Pinakothek der Moderne München, Schmuck 2025, Vitra museum, Berlin Fashion Week, as well as major players in German design, fashion, jewelry. All of the above and many more have actively contributed to the making of SMCK Magazine issue No. 11 by generously sharing their knowledge with us and our readers.
In addition to the glossary, selected artists will be interviewed and presented in a video documentary featuring the applied arts, crafts, and design sector’s best of the best. The video interviews will be shot in January 2025 under the directions of and together with SMCK Magazine’s editors in an exclusive and comprehensive online setting.
SMCK Magazine’s issue No.11 "Made in Germany" (A) plus the video documentary (B) will be presented on Friday 14 March at Galerie Handwerk during Schmuck/Talente 2025 aka Jewelry Week of Munich.
Selected artists’ works will be presented in SMCK Magazine along with their bio and statement.
