MAGIC /
SMCK ON REEL

AT SCHMUCK
JEWELRY WEEK IN MUNICH
1+2 MARCH 2024

Application deadline: 4 February 2024

Jewelry is a bridge that connects us with our heritage, emotions, memories, life milestones, history, society, with hierarchy or revolution, with monetary values or with nature’s unique preciousness, with ornamentation or masterpieces, with our own vanity or with political activism, and, above all, with jewelry’s archaic past: Magic!

SMCK ON REEL 2024 / Magic invites artists, designers, crafters, curators, educators, gallerists and art professionals, working in the field of jewelry, object, wearable art, fashion, textile, ceramics, glass, and all forms of applied arts and crafts, to elaborate on the background and sources of inspiration of their work via a 3 minutes long video.

Submitted/selected videos will be screened on Friday, 1 March at Munich's central venue Galerie Handwerk, and on Saturday, 2 March at Galerie Weltraum, a multi-awarded art venue in downtown Munich.
Need more inspiration for your video theme? Read Jewelry Is A Bridge in SMCK Magazine #4, and find out how much more than you think jewelry is!

Reels – the art of the moving image – deploy the artist’s narrative and enable the public to understand better the maker’s background, work and message. More than hundred international jewelry artists, designers, art institutions and collectives participated in SMCK ON REEL 2022 and 2023.

The video screenings took place in Schmuck Munich (Germany), Vilnius Biennial (Lithuania), Romanian Jewelry Week in Bucharest (Romania), Grassimesse in Leipzig (Germany), Faktor Art Space Hamburg (Germany), Museum of History in Kyiv (Ukraine), Romanian Jewelry Week in Timisoara (Romania) and in Chisinau (Moldavia), Melitzazz Festival Leonidio (Greece).

SMCK ON REEL 2024 / Magic is curated by SMCK Magazine.
